UNICEF Soccer Aid 2012 Smashes Records

Well, Robbie Williams has been at it again, but the records he’s smashing this time have nothing to do with music. As the co-founder of Soccer Aid, this years donations have been the best EVER, smashing all previous records with an astounding £4.9million raised!

The event, which took place at Old Trafford on Sunday 27th May 2012 and was broadcast live on ITV1, featured a star studded cast of players who battled it out in front of 70,000 spectators. The England All Star team finally ran out 3-1 winners, but the big winners on the day were not only UNICEF, but also children around the world.

UNICEF UK Ambassador, Robbie, said –

I’m still basking in the glory of England’s win and so pleased that this has been the best Soccer Aid yet with almost £5 million raised for UNICEF – for children. Thank you so so much to everyone who donated on the night or bought a ticket to the match – we couldn’t have done it without you.

Over 356,000 people made donations of the night of Soccer Aid, with over £1.5million of donations made by SMS alone. Amazingly, the British Government agreed to match the publics generous totals pound for pound, helping smash all Soccer Aid records in the process. A massive congratulations to not only all those that took part, but also those who donated their hard earned money to this worthwhile cause.
