A massive thank you to Action Aid UK supporters, who have generously donated over £2 million for the relief effort in Pakistan. New estimates reveal that the flooding has now affected over 20 million people, with 3 million of them children under five years old. With many of them homeless, hungry and still at risk to disease, Action Aid has expanded their emergency relief program and plan to reach over 100,000 people by the end of the month. With harvests lost, roads washed away and 10,000 schools damaged, this is one of the most serious humanitarian disasters in the world’s history.
President of an ActionAid partner in Sindh, Ghaffar Pandrani, said –
Our mobile medical camps are providing essential medical care and medicines to people who have been badly affected by the floods and have no money to buy medicines. Hundreds of women and children have been treated for diarrhoea, skin and eye infections and common fevers. We have arranged for women health workers to provide medical assistance and counselling to pregnant women.
Thanks to your kind donations, Action Aid can continue their work on the frontline in Pakistan. So far their team has reached over 84,000 people with food, clean water, shelter materials and medical care, but so much more needs to be done to help rebuild the lives of the millions of people who have been affected by the devastating flooding.
