The British Red Cross team will be in full force tomorrow as the capital braces itself for the big one, William and Kate’s Royal Wedding. Over 100 staff will be on hand to provide first aid to the thousands of people who will be descending upon the capital to celebrate this momentous day.
Teams will set up posts across various areas of London to help with any injuries that may occur due to heat and overcrowding, personally I’ll be watching it from the safety of my own sofa with a cup of tea and a digestive!
British Red Cross emergency planning officer, Adam Hiley, said –
As this is a large scale public event, we have been planning and preparing for it for the past three weeks now. We are deploying equipment and teams for first aid cover to ensure that well-wishers and tourists gathering in central London can be attended to in the event of any emergencies.
For such high profile events, it is imperative that the Red Cross team can be in constant communication throughout the day. To do this they use a system called Airwave, which can deliver digital voice data across a specifically designated network. This system has proved to be a huge success and was last used when the Pope visited the UK last year.

As well as enabling interoperability over a secure network with the statutory emergency response organisations, the Airwave service also provides essential voice and data communications within and between the emergency services. As a result, our organisation will be ready to respond effectively to any incident, large or small.
So let’s raise our glasses to the future King and his bride, let’s hope the celebrations go with a swing and that the British Red Cross team have a quiet day in the field…
