Cancer Research UK has teamed up with Channel 4 to launch ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ in October 2012, where TV, music and film stars will come together for a new national fundraising event to fight against cancer. The fundraising extravaganza will feature factual health news alongside some of Channel 4’s biggest stars like Alan Carr and Davina McCall.
Since Stand Up To Cancer first started in the States 4 years ago across the ABC, CBS and NBC channels to gather the support of the entertainment industry. They managed to raise an amazing £100 million for continued cancer research, with Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow a co-executive producer of the U.S. programme who will also participate in the British show.
Gwyneth said –
Like so many people all over the world, I know what it’s like to lose a loved one to cancer; it took my Dad in the prime of his life. Stand Up To Cancer has the power to revolutionise the way we fight this disease, by uniting doctors, scientists and patients in groundbreaking research. This special broadcast will mark a wonderful milestone as SU2C evolves into a true global movement.
Stand Up To Cancer on Channel 4 will encourage the British public to show their support and raise millions for the fight against cancer. All the funds raised through the UK Stand Up To Cancer campaign will go specifically towards our countries leading clinical research against this killer disease.
