WSPA charity officials are over the moon with news that the future of London’s wildlife crime policing in London is gathering supporters, with two major candidates for mayor committing to invest in the specialist unit. Both Labour candidate Ken Livingstone and Green candidate Jenny Jones have promised to properly resource the Wildlife Crime Unit, great news as London is the main hotspot for the illegal trade of animals in the UK.
Both candidates were responding to pressure formed from London based WSPA supporters who wrote to them, urging to put the specialist unit on their agenda. Over 7,000 WSPA supporters from around the country signed an open letter (myself included) that will be handed to the new Mayor after the election on Thursday 3rd May 2012, urging them to tackle wildlife crime in the capital head on with strong financial backing.
Lets hope that if either is voted into the position of Mayor of London, that they keep there promise to invest properly in the Wildlife Crime Unit and put a stop to this barbaric and illegal trade.
